Classic Scones Recipe

Indulging in the scrumptious affair of afternoon tea would be incomplete without scones. Here is a recipe to make the perfect scones for your afternoon tea! Made with our butter they are a real culinary delight!

Ingredients:

  • 85g Cotswold Butter, softened
  • 35og self-raising flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 3 tbsp caster sugar
  • 175ml milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Egg, to glaze
  • Jam and clotted cream, to serve

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 220°c. Sift the flour and baking powder into a bowl, then add a pinch of salt.
  2. Rub the butter into the flour until it forms crumbs. Next stir in the caster sugar.
  3. Make a well in the crumbs and pour in milk and vanilla extract and combine
  4. Place the dough on a floured surface and fold the dough together. Take a 5cm butter and dip it into some flour. Press into the dough to make your scones!
  5. Brush the tops with a beaten egg then carefully arrange on a baking tray – making sure they are not too close together!
  6. Bake for 10 minutes until they have risen and golden on top. Serve with a generous amount of jam and clotted cream!
  7. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly. Slice the bread into individual servings and serve warm
