French toast is a delightful dish that can be enjoyed on various occasions. It is particularly good for breakfast or brunch, offering a comforting and indulgent start to the day. Whether it’s a lazy weekend morning or a special holiday treat, French toast provides a satisfying and delicious option. Its golden-brown exterior, crispy edges, and soft, custard-like interior make it a crowd-pleaser. French toast is also a great way to repurpose stale bread, transforming it into a delightful meal. Topped with maple syrup, fresh berries, or a dusting of powdered sugar, French toast becomes a decadent delight that satisfies both the sweet tooth and the craving for a warm, comforting breakfast. It’s a versatile dish that can be enjoyed on its own or paired with a side of bacon, sausage, or fresh fruit for a complete and balanced meal. No matter the occasion, French toast brings a touch of indulgence and nostalgia to the table, making it a timeless favourite for breakfast lovers everywhere.

Ingredients:

  • 4 slices of bread (thick slices of brioche, challah, or French bread work well)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 50g Cotswold Butter
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Cotswold Butter for greasing the pan
  • Optional toppings: maple syrup, fresh berries, powdered sugar

Instructions:

  1. In a shallow bowl or pie plate, whisk together the eggs, milk, Cotswold Butter, vanilla extract, sugar, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  2. Preheat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. You can also use a regular skillet and grease it with Cotswold Butter.
  3. Dip one slice of bread into the egg mixture, coating both sides evenly. Let any excess mixture drip off.
  4. Place the dipped bread onto the preheated skillet or griddle. Repeat the process with the remaining slices of bread, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.
  5. Cook the bread for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and slightly crispy.
  6. Remove the French toast from the pan and transfer it to a serving plate. Repeat the cooking process with the remaining slices of bread.
  7. Serve the French toast warm with your favourite toppings such as maple syrup, fresh berries, or a dusting of powdered sugar.

Enjoy your homemade French toast as a delicious breakfast or brunch treat. The bread becomes beautifully golden and crispy on the outside, while staying soft and fluffy on the inside. The delightful combination of cinnamon and vanilla adds a touch of warmth and sweetness to each bite. Customise your French toast with your preferred toppings and savour the comforting flavours of this classic dish.
